Finding References - 8/22
To begin, I scoured the internet to find various references for my scene. I included references to the character design, the time period furniture, and different lighting references. I referenced Disney's Tangled for layout and model creation, as they have a strong sense of storytelling and iconic props and pieces in their scene.
Blocking Things Out - 8/29
First, I blocked out the main parts of the tower based on the interior reference. I carefully scaled and measured the dimensions of the octagonal room. After some debate, I decided I wanted to try to recreate as much of the entire interior as possible, and to fully get the character in the scene.
Wardrobe Asset Model - 9/5
I started off by recreating one of the main models in the scene from start to finish. I found that the wardrobe model was based off a real antique wardrobe in a museum, so I repurposed the painting detail onto the sides and doors. I also added an interior to add realism.
Character & Layout Update - 9/10
At the beginning, I planned on rigging a character to put in scene. While this was great practice, I eventually decided to focus in on the environment of the tower interior.

Furniture Models - 10/1
All of the big furniture pieces finished, with a common embellishment added to all of them. I textured the bed to match the original bed in the film, but later changed to a natural plum design that blended with the rest of the interior.
Layout Import - 10/10
With all of the big furniture pieces finished, it was time to put them all together in scene and set up cameras! I updated the pillows on the bed, and I set up 5 camera shots.
Animatic - 10/17
First animatic, rough layout. I wanted to showcase the furniture, and the painting. After some feedback, I decided I need to add an establishing shot, as well as slow down/adjust the current shots to follow the story I want to tell.
 Maya to Unreal - 11/7
W Utilizing Unreal's real-time rendering. I imported all of the models & cameras into the software from Maya. Then, I took all the textures made in substance painter and connected them to the models one by one for their custom look.
Final Touches - 11/14
With everything in scene, it was time to get the final look by adding some sunset lighting and decreasing the roughness of some of the textures. I was setback by the cameras importing incorrectly into Unreal, so I spent some time recreating the camera work.
After Effects Editing - 11/25
I put the final video together in Adobe After Effects. I added magic sparkles for the magical paintbrush, and an image of Rapunzel appearing in the final painting, before fading to black.

I'm proud to have recreated a beautiful environment with my own personal artwork and creative vision, while keeping a recognizable environment for everyone to see. Please Enjoy!
